OBITUARY

Death, the reaper, has again visited this community and plucked from among the flowers one of the most bright and lovely buds, little Cordelia Wooden, the only daughter of Hugh and Roxie Wooden. She was born in Martinsville, March 13, 1910 [sic], and departed this short and happy life, Sunday evening , at 5 o’clock, Jan. 5, 1913, at the home of her Grandpa Wooden, aged 3 years, 10 months and 5 days. Little Cordelia, as she was familiarly known, was a loving, bright and obedient child. She was greatly loved by all who knew her. Her last sickness was of short duration. She was confined to her bed with diphtheria which developed into pneumonia and paralysis of the heart. Her suffering was great, although she bore it with the patience of a lamb, always ready to take her medicine and do as she was told.

She leaves a loving father, mother, two dear little brothers, four grandparents, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss.

Little Cordellia [sic] will be greatly missed among her playmates and friends. But we must all bow to all such events, as to the will of God and realize the blessedness of knowing that she has gone home to her Great Redeemer in heaven. To the parents and little brothers, we wish to say, let the promise of the Savior be your stay, and when death calls you, be ready to meet your darling on the other shore. You have the assurance that she has been transferred to Heaven where there is neither sickness or sorrow, pain or death, but a bright crown for all the redeemed.

A loved one from us has gone,
A voice we love is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.

Like a flower she passed away,
Destroyed in all her bloom;
She left this world and all her friends
To moulder in the tomb.

Dearest loved one, we have laid thee
In the peaceful grav’s embrace,
But thy memory shall be cherished
Till we see thy heavenly face.

The golden gates were opened wide,
A gentle voice said, “Come”,
And Angels from the other side
Welcomed our loved one home.
