VALLEY CITY BOY DROWNED
Clark Beese, While Playing With Companions, Falls Into River and Perishes.
Valley City, N. D., June 23 - Last evening at about 6 o'clock, while a number of boys were playing on the east park bridge, squirting water with squirt guns, one of them, Clark Beese, squirted water on a lady who was crossing the bridge in a buggy. The lady, it is said, stopped her horse and got out of the buggy with the buggy whip. Young Beese, who was standing on one of the concrete piles of the bridge, outside of the railing, jumped for the shore, but missed his landing, though striking the branches of a tree that grew at the water's edge. This threw him backward into the river, which is quite deep at that point where the swift current washes the shore. The little fellow, although stunned by the fall, grasped a branch but soon let go and sank out of sight.
Neil Tracy, who was on the other side of the bridge, saw him fall and ran down the bank to his assistance, and waded in after him, but was only in time to see him disappear. Tracy ran home and notified his mother. Mrs. Tracy gave the alarm, and in a short time, a large number of persons gathered and a systematic search was instituted by men in boats for the body which was not recovered until about 9 o'clock.
Mr. Beese is a traveling man and is away from home. An effort is being made to locate him. Mrs. Beese is prostrated with grief over the unfortunate affair.

DROWNING VICTIM BURIED
Funeral of Little Clark Beese held at Valley City.
Valley City, N. D., July 2 - The funeral of little Clark Beese, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. (E.D.) Beese, occurred at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon from the residence of the boy's parents. Rev. Anderson was the officiating minister and Mrs. Marie Watson of Jamestown sang the beautiful solo, Oh Golden Day.
The little boy's death was a very sad affair. He became frightened while standing on the outside railing of the bridge over the Sheyenne River, and fell into the water. The little fellow's companions ran for help, but it was believed that the boy was stunned by the fall as he was not seen to rise again. The river was dragged and after three hours' search, his body was recovered. Deep sympathy was felt by all for the stricken parents, and was evidenced by the numerous and beautiful floral offerings and the kindly assistance rendered the family who are practically strangers in the city.
