Jake B. Brethauer, 92, of rural Kersey died Wednesday at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1907, in Greeley to John and Mary Katherine (Kister) Brethauer.

On Nov. 5, 1928, he married Pauline Wilhelm in Greeley. She died Aug. 9, 1968. On May 2, 1987 he married Lucille Francis Jehorek in Greeley.

A lifelong resident of the Kersey area, Mr. Brethauer was a dairy farmer and enjoyed making machinery. He and his brother were featured in an agriculture magazine in June 1941 as being the first to build a beet loader to take the backache out of loading sugar beets by hand. He was the president of the Stransky Ditch Co. and was instrumental in forming the water district that delivers soft water to rural Kersey.

Mr. Brethauer was a member of the Moose Lodge and Legion of the Moose. He also was a Golden Gloves boxing champion of three states, enjoyed demonstrating his physical strength in his younger days and telling stories of growing up. He enjoyed watching football and boxing on television, was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to camp.

Survivors are his wife, Lucille Brethauer of Kersey; a daughter, Darlene Dinnel-Monroe of Greeley; a son, Jerold Brethauer, also of Kersey; two sisters, Esther Miner of Denver and Rachel Lanning of Greeley; a brother, William Brethauer of Yuma; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and 13 step-children. Two sons, Donald and Jack Brethauer; a sister, and two brothers are deceased.

Friends may visit from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Allnutt Funeral Service Macy Chapel.

Contributiions may be made to the Jake B. Brethauer Memorial Fund in care of the Macy Chapel.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of the Nazarene, 2515 W. 16th St. Interment will be in Linn Grove Cemetery.
