He was born Oct. 27, 1925 in Crawford County to Carl R. and Arletta (Miller) Schifer. He married Joy Hayes July 11, 1964; she survives.
Other survivors are his mother, Arletta Schifer of Sycamore, three daughters, Barbara Sue and Carla Schifer, both at home, Sandra Beran and Steven Schifer, both of Bucyrus, three brothers, Paul, Fred and Ralph Schifer, all of Bucyrus, five sisters, Mrs. Wayne (Bertha) Rothlisberger, Upper Sandusky, Mrs. Charles (Lucile) Estermyer, Costa Meza Calif., Mrs. Rudy (Mildred) Sharky, Barberton, Mrs. George (Barbara) Miller, Marion, and Mrs. James (Helen) Case, Budcyrus, and two grandchilren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Dale Schifer.
While living in Bucyrus, Mr. Schifer farmed and hauled bulk milk. He moved to Oregon in 1958 and operated his own construction company and berry farm until failing health forced him to retire in March. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 4 in Oakwood Cemetery, with Rev. John E. Kerr officiating.
No calling hours will be observed. Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. The family said memorials may be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
