CHRISTIAN TESCH

Christian Tesch died at Appleton last Wednesday at the age of eighty-nine years. The old gentleman had been ailing for some time and recently an operation for gall stones was decided upon. The operation, while successful, was too great a tax upon his vitality and death claimed its own.
Decedent was born in Germany, April 14, 1826. In 1850 he was married to Minnie Timm and two children were born to the couple before they came to America in 1856, and settled at Waukesha. In 1860 they came to Calumet Co., settling on the farm now owned by Henry Abel. Later they settled on the farm a few miles north of our city.

In 1863 Mr. Tesch enlisted in the 13th Wis. Vol. for service in the Civil War and his name therefore deserves the reverence from his fellow citizens due one who has bared his breast to the bullets of his adopted country's foes. He was a man of deep piety, a member of the German M. E. congregation. He has a character that was incapable of wronging a fellow man. He was a man of untiring industry and thrift and the magnificent farm known as the Tesch homestead is a monument to his efficiency and competent citizenship. His name is borne by a family who have earned the esteem of their fellows and who have prospered by industry and frugality.

The funeral took place today, the body arriving from Appleton on the noon train and being taken to the Ger. M. E. Church where appropriate funeral services were conducted by Rev. Elske, interment being in the Bluff Cemetery.
Deceased is survived by four sons and one daughter. The sons are John and Jacob of Brillion, William of Appleton and Frank of Chilton. The daughter is Mrs. J. W. Wenk. Six brothers and a sister also survive. In recent years he lived at the home of his son, William at Appleton.
