Ida was born in Wilson Township in Colfax county Nebraska on a farm that her father had homesteaded. In 1910, she moved with her parents to a farm 8 miles west of Enid, Oklahoma, where they were members of Trinity Lutheran Church near Glenella (orig. a post office location). After her marriage, she became a member of Zion Lutheran at Lahoma. Their first two children, Raymond and Irene, were born on that farm. About 1920, Gus bought a farm near Perry, Oklahoma, where son Edwin and daughter Adeline were born. In 1925, the family moved to Columbus where daughters Ferne and Ruth were born. In 1945, Gus and Ida moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where they remained the rest of their lives.

Ida was very gifted at many crafts and in Lincoln worked at Woolworth's decorating cakes. She was member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln and a member of Ladies Aid there.
