James was a Private from VA in the Revolution. In 1782 he was under the command of George Rogers Clark in the expedition against the Shawnee Indians. On November 17th, 1790, James bought 600 acres of land from Daniel Boone, which he shared with his brothers. Four of the brothers farms all joined together in Madison Co. KY, where several of his family members are buried in this abandoned cemetery.
