Clifford James, Jr., eldest child of Cliff and Ethel Bland was born near Gove, Kansas, on Jan. 7, 1921. Plaged with ill health all his life, he was fatally stricken with a heart attach at his home east of Gove the evening of May 22, 1970, at the age of 49 years, 4 months, and 15 days.

On February 11, 1947, he was united in marriage to Theodora Wessel of Angelus. Into this home, one son, Robert James, was born.

He lived his life on the farm and was always interested in early Gove County history and antiques. He also was a great lover of animals.

He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, Dora; their son Robert; his mother Mrs. Ethel Bland; Gail and Marie Beesley; Lawrence and Elinor Wilson; Kenneth and Mae Bland, all of Gove; Wayne and Marion Bland of Saugus, Mass.; and Don and Bernice Bland of Denver, Colo. Also 14 nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday morning, May 25 in the St. Agnes church at Grainfield and burial was in the family plot at Gove. Casket bearers were Nick Selensky, Wayne Litson, Louis Anglin, Robert Powers, Carl Heinrich and Jim Losey.
