Kenneth Carl Bland was born December 17, 1921 on a farmstead 3 1/2 miles northwest of Gove in Gove County, Kansas to Clifford James Bland and Ethel Marie (Johnson) Bland. He was the third generation Gove County farmer and stockman. He passed away in Haysville,Kansas on March 21, 2008 at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 4 days.

Kenneth was educated in the Gove school system and graduated from Gove Rural High School in 1941. After graduation, he continued working on the family farm prior to entering the United States Army in 1942,

While stationed in Mobile, Alabama, Kenneth met Elsie Mae Tindal, and the two wed on her 20th birthday - January 17, 1945. He shipped out two weeks later to the Pacific Theater where he served on the US Army Air Forces 7th Aircraft Repair Unit, Floating, based on the US Army aircraft repair ship USS Brig. Gen Alfred J Lyon. While in the Philippines, he received notice of his father's passing and returned home to work with his mother on the farm.

Kenneth was a founding member of the Gove Bible Baptist Church and served many years on the church board. At the time of his death he was an honorary elder of the Gove Community Bible Church. He belonged to various clubs and organizations including the Gove Lions Club, Gove Senior Center, Gove Community Improvement Association, and the Hackberry Hoppers. He also served on the city council, township board, and was mayor of Gove City.

Beginning in 1968 and continuing until his retirement in 1986, Kenneth partnered first with his son, and later with his daughter and son-in-law as well, in a custom cutting operation that traveled from Texas to Montana harvesting wheat. He was also a cattleman for more than four decades.

Kenneth in survived by his wife, Mae; a son, Boyd M Bland and wife, Karen of rural Gove; a daughter, Barbara Zimmerman and husband, Darrell of Mulvane; sisters, Marie Beesley, Elinor Wilson and husband, Lawrence of Gove; foster brother, Don Bland of McPherson; sister-in-law, Dora Bland of Hoxie, brother-in-law, Garvice Tindal of Chunchulla Alabama; six grandchildren, Christy Gimben and husband, Tim of Derby; Jennifer Novak and husband, Jon of Marysville; Tracey Hager and husband, Tim (yes, there is a second Timothy) of Derby; Jessica Ferguson and husband, Dennis of Hampton, Nebraska; Jamie Bland of rural Gove; amd Tammy Zimmerman of Mulvane. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and numberous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clifford J Bland, Jr., and Wayne Bland; and infant grandson Boyd M Bland, Jr.

Kenneth loved many things; family, farming, wheat harvest, Hereford cattle, and God. He was a friend to all who knew him and a gentle-man.
