Ruben Cherry, 53, of 862 North McLean, owner of the Home of the Blues record shop for 27 years, died yesterday at Rosewood Convalescent Center after a short illness. Mr. Cherry established the record shop at 107 Beale Street in 1948, which was a landmark in the area for many years. Mr. Cherry relocated his business at 147 South Main in 1968 when the Beale Street area was marked for urban renewal. He was a member of the Variety Club and a World War II veteran. Services were yesterday at the Same Abraham Chapel in baron Hirsch Cemetery. Treadwell & Canale Funeral Directors had charge. He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cherry of Memphis.
