John Kuska Sr., son of the late Anna Holub and Thomas Kuska, was born in Malkov, Czechoslovakia, August 19, 1876. He passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 23, 1961, after having been to town that morning. He was 84 years and 10 months old.

In 1892, at the age of 15 years, he came to America to make his home with his brother, Joseph and uncle Anton Kuska. During his youth, he worked as a farm hand near Ohiowa and Geneva, making many friends.

February 26, 1900, he was united in marriage to Mary Stetina. They moved to a farm near Ohiowa and two years later purchased a farm southeast of Exeter where they resided until 1931. Then they moved to Exeter, where they made their home since, with the exception of seven years spent with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Tesar of Buhl, Idaho.

Mr. Kuska was a good friend and neighbor, and enjoyed having company, especially the families of his children and grandchildren. He cared for his wife during her long illness, and when she passed away, he missed her very much but continued to make his home in Exeter.

He was a member of ZCBJ Lodge No. 138, holding an office for many years. A few years ago he attained the status of a 50-year honor member.

In 1950 he and his wife were privileged to observed their golden wedding anniversary.

Those left to mourn his death are his three children, Mollie, Mrs. Mike Becwar Jr. of Exeter; Mildred, Mrs. Pete Tesar of Buhl, Idaho; and son John Jr. also of Exeter; their spouses, Mike Beckwar Jr., Pete Tesar and Julia Kuska; seven grandchildren, Delmar Kuska of Milligan, Verlyn Kruska of Exeter, Leonard Becwar of Fairmont, Leroy Becwar of Davenport, Marilyn Butler of Fort Collins, Col., Robert Tesar of Buhl, Idaho and Judy Kuska of Exeter; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie, and brother Thomas of Czechoslovakia and several cousins in America. Preceding him in death were his wife and little daughter, Sylvia; his parents, three brothers, Joseph, Frank and Thomas and sisters, Petrolina and Anna.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 23, 1961, from the Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter at 1 p.m. and from the Milligan auditorium in Milligan at 2 p.m. Rev. R. Sherman Ragsdell of the Exeter Methodist Church officiated at both services.

Interment was in the south cemetery in Milligan.
