Ralph Francis Emery Holzemer was the 4th child and 2nd son of Jacob and Lena Sandidge Holzemer who raised their family in Lewistown, Montana in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

According to the Baptism Records provided by St. Leo Catholic Church in Lewistown, Emery's first name was Raphael. The record indicates he was baptized at the church, which still stands today, on 4 Dec 1896 by the Reverend E. Damanez (Vol. I, page 6). His sponsors were James Holzemer and Natalia Belanger whom I have yet to identify. It is interesting that the father's first name is given as James rather than Jacob.

Emery, as he was known, died at age 2 years 8 months of cerebro-spinal meningitis per a notice in the Fergus County Argus of 29 March 1899. The paper noted the child had been ill for 2 weeks and under a doctor's care.

Emery shares his cemetery marker with 2 of his sisters, Elizabeth and June, who also died in childhood. I visited the cemetery on my June 2013 Family History Research Trip to Lewistown and Fort Benton.
