Charles Alex Bode, age 83 of Breckenridge went to be with the love of his life, Elaine, on Friday, June 4, 2010 at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Breckenridge. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 7th, 2010 at Elliot Street Church of Christ with Jim Cox officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Charles Alex Bode was born on January 8, 1927 in Pontotoc, Texas to parents Felix Robert Bode and Altha Jackson Bode. Charles attended Hutchison public school in Pontotoc. He joined the US Army in 1945 where he served as a Medical Technician. He received the WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). Charles lived in Mills, Co. then moved to Breckenridge where he was employed at the Breckenridge Boot and Saddle Shop. He was also a ranch foreman for a local rancher for many years. He married Elaine Simpson on July 11, 1948 and they remained here in Stephens Co. raising their children. Charles enjoyed raising national award winning Golden Sebrite chickens, and also raising and racing pigeons. He loved storytelling, being a jokester, and was always seen with a smile on his face. His family, including his church family, and his grand and great grand children were the reason for the sparkle in his eye. Charles is survived by one daughter, Ileta and husband, Chuck Devier of Houston; one son, Michael and wife, Nancy Bode of Breckenridge; daughter in law, Debbie Bode of Breckenridge; nine grandchildren, David A. Devier of Nacogdoches, Sarah E. Devier of Houston, Ginger R. McWilliams and husband, Robby of Leander, Amber D Boase and husband, Troy of Stephenville, Heather R. Bode, also of Stephenville, Eric V. Bode and wife, Jenny of Breckenridge, Lela E. Graham of Breckenridge, Tina L. Bode of Breckenridge, and Dustin C. Bode and wife, Christie of Brownwood. He is also survived by 16 great grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Elaine, his parents, one brother, two sisters, and his son Ivan L. Bode. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
