Floyd R. Metcalf, age 85, of Hayward, WI passed away peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2009 at Golden Living – Valley of Hayward.
Floyd Richard Metcalf was born on January 26, 1924 in Stone Lake, WI, the son of Asa and Anna (Wick) Metcalf. Floyd served in the U.S. Air Force from 1945 to 1947. He drove a milk truck for a time before becoming a dairy farmer. He married Martha Sheptick on June 7, 1952 in Couderay. Floyd was a member of the Moose Lodge, the VFW, and also served on the FHA committee. After his retirement, Floyd gave sleigh rides at Telemark during the winter and buggy rides down Main Street during the summer. In his later years, he also delivered cars for a local dealership. He and Martha used to enjoy traveling and dancing a good polka.
Floyd is survived by four children: Linda (Randy) Stark of Columbia Heights, MN, Gaylene (John) Wendle of Sierra Vista, AZ, Rick (Debra) Metcalf of Clear Lake, MN and Audra (Jeff Aubart) Metcalf of Hayward, WI; six grandchildren: Joshua (Channing), Jacob and Joanna Stark, Tyler Metcalf, Beth Metcalf-Frost, and Rochelle Wilkozek; five great grandchildren: Alissa, Katelyn, Camren, Myia, and Myka Stark; three sisters: Marcella Shoquist of Hayward, Bessie Jarvis of Stone Lake, and Sarah Metcalf of Hayward; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha, his brother Marshall, and three sisters: Helen Metcalf, Hazel Slayton, and Lazetta Lamphear.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9th at the Hayward Wesleyan Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel Funeral Home and again on Wednesday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.
Casket bearers will be David Jarvis, Mike Jarvis, Robert Jarvis, Dwight Metcalf, Eugene Slayton and Wayne Slayton
