A SAD DEATH—The Wife of Reverend W. A. Arpke Passed Away on Tuesday
The record of the sad and sudden death of Mrs. W. A. Arpke, which occurred at her home in this city, at 10 o'clock on Tuesday morning, the 27th, will be read by our patrons with genuine regret and heartfelt sympathy for the bereft husband and relatives.
Eliza Sircher was born in this city on January 6, 1863. She was the daughter of the late Frederick Sircher, one of the pioneer settlers of Chilton and a prominent citizen until his death.
On October 20, 1896, she was married to Rev. W. A. Arpke, pastor of the Ebenezer church of this city, and since that time has been a zealous worker in the church and a true helpmate to its pastor. A child was born to them, on Saturday, which died at its birth, and this sorrow was followed by the death of the mother, the following Tuesday.
The funeral, which occurred on Friday, at 1 o'clock p.m., was a large one. The services were conducted by Rev. F. Aigner, of Kaukauna, assisted by Prob. Frank Grether, of the Franklin Seminary, and Rev. J. Roeck, of Kiel. The former preached an eloquent and befitting sermon in the English language, and the latter spoke words of comfort in German.
Besides these above named reverend gentlemen, the following clergymen were present at the funeral service; Rev. T. Schildknecht of New Holstein; Rev. Otto Engelmann of Potter; Rev. C. F/ Martin, D. D. of Franklin; and Rev. H. S. Evert of this city.
Special music was rendered in both English and German by two well-trained choirs and the mournful procession wended its way to the cemetery on the hillside, where the last sad rites of the church were administered and the remains were laid to rest.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the Rev. Arpke and other relatives of the deceased in their sad bereavement.
