Alfred J. Wilberding, 89 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy and Deacon Rick Roder officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2011. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Alfred was born on Jan. 27, 1922, at rural Remsen, IA the son of Charles and Mary (Jasper) Wilberding. He was raised and educated in the Remsen, IA & St. Killian, MN area. After the 8th grade Alfred stayed home to help on the family farm. He then worked as a carpenter for 3 years.

On Jan. 24, 1950, he married Geraldine Bauer at Maryhill, IA. The couple made their home on a farm north of Marcus where Alfred began farming for himself. In 1984 the couple retired from farming and moved into Remsen. In Sept. 2010 the couple moved to Bavarian Meadows Assisted living in Remsen.

Alfred was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus. Alfred enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, woodworking, gardening & playing cards.

Survivors include: his wife Geraldine of Remsen; Paul Wilberding & his wife Joan of Marcus, IA; JoAnn Tentinger and her husband Chuck of Remsen; 8 grandchildren, Matt Wilberding and his wife Ashley of Laramie, WY, Katie Cross and her husband Steve of Denver, CO, Jessica Wilberding of Iowa City, IA, Briana, Abby and Bethany Wilberding of Marcus, IA; and Nick Tentinger of Remsen and Amy Tentinger of Omaha, NE; one sister, Helen Flaharty of LeMars, IA; one brother, Ray Wilberding and his wife Peg of Melrose, IA; 4 sisters-in-law, Anne Wilberding of Meriden, IA, Bernice Dickson and her husband Bill of Carroll, IA, Dorothy O'Meara of Spencer, IA, and Alice Speers and her husband Don of Storm Lake, IA; and one brother-in-law, Vernon Bauer of Cleghorn, IA.

Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lawrence Wilberding; and two brothers-in-law, Leo Flaherty and Jim O'Meara.

Casket bearers will be Nick and Amy Tentinger, Matt, Ashley, Jessica, and Briana Wilberding, and Katie and Steve Cross.

Honorary bearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
