Michael; Rzepka, aged 68, of 1625 Pulaski street, a retired city policeman, died at 2:30 a. m. today in his home after an illness of eight months.
He took off his police badge June 30, 1937, after wearing it for 27 years and two months, and retired from the city police department after one of the longest periods of service of any man in the department.
"Officer Mike" as he was familiarly known, traveled a beat in the downtown section of the city at the time of his retirement but had spent many years as a patrolman on the west side.
He was a member, of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Mr. Rzepka was born in Utica, N.Y Sept. 12, 1876, and came here at the age of eight from that city with his parents.
On Jan. 17, 1898, he was married in St. Hedwige's Roman Catholic church by the late Rev. Valentine Czyzewski, C.S.C, pastor, to Miss Victoria Bonek, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Anthony and Aloysius Rzepka and three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Sroda, Mrs. Marie Repp and Mrs. Virginia Milewska, all of South Bend; four brothers, Blase Rzepka, of Michigan City, Ind., Ladislaus Rzepka, of Terre Coupee, this county; Stanley and Vincent Rzepka, both of South Bend; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Smokla, of Brosnson, Mich., and Mrs. Mary Kolacz, of Terre Coupee, and eight grandchildren, one of whom is in the armed forces.
Friends will be received in the home rafter 5 p. m. Saturday until the time of the funeral which will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Casimir's Roman Catholic church.
Rev. Boleslaus J. Sztuczko, C.S.C, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will.be in St. Joseph's cemetery.
