Obituary: Teutopolis Press - March 21, 1918

Barney Repking At Rest

Just as the clock struck twelve Friday noon, March 15th, Barney Repking, a well to do and well known farmer of Franklin, died peacefully surrounded by his loving and devoted wife and children, brother, sisters and near relatives, after a sickness of about four weeks of pleurisy and weakness of the heart. The last Sacraments of the dying of the Catholic Church was received by him before his final end. _ Deceased was born Oct. 25th, 1858, and reared at Bishop and was a son of Anton and Elizabeth Repking, born Sandschaeper, pioneer settlers of Bishop. On May 11th, 1886, he joined hands in holy wedlock with Miss Catherine Niemerg, daughter of deceased R. Niemerg and wife, born Brueggemann, also pioneer settlers there. Rev Father Marus Brink OFM, now dead, officiated.

This union was blessed with five children, four boys and one girl, who died when four years old of diphtheria. Deceased was a peaceful and law abiding citizen, good hearted husband and father. a faithful son of St Aloy's congregation at Bishop and loyal member of St Joseph's men's sodality, a good companion and helping neighbor. At one time he was trustee of the Church.

He is survived by a sorrow stricken wife and four grown boys. Henry and Bernie both married, Joseph and Allie at Home; one brother John, four sisters M. Theresia, Reverend Mother Superior of Sisters of the Precious Blood at Ruma, Randolph, Illinois, USA., Mrs Anton (Kathryn,) Koester northwest of Effingham, Mrs Joseph (Caroline,) Niemerg of Bishop and Mrs Jos (Lizzie, Westendorf of Island Grove; three grandchildren, two boys and one girl, his aged mother Mrs Elizabeth Repking, eighty one -years old and his aunt Grandma Sandschaeper and other relatives. His father having preceded him to the grave Oct. 7th 1907.

Internment was made from the Catholic Church at Bishop Monday, March l8th at nine o'clock am, in the nearby Cemetery, the remains were followed by a very large circle of mourners, relatives and friends of the deceased. In the absence of Rev Fr. Paschalis Foerster O. F.M., local pastor, Rev Fr. Emmanuel Behrendt O. F. M., of the Monastery at Teutopolis, officiated. May he rest in peace. The following members of the Men's Sodality acted as pallbearers: Frank Esker, Frank Hofer, John and Joseph Luechtefeld, Frank Probst and William Verdeyen.
