John Repking, 91, of Bishop Dies On Sunday Morning at Home

John Repking, 91, of Bishop, died at 6:30 am Sunday, February 2nd at Home. He became ill early Saturday morning and death was due to a virus infection. Mr. Repking was seriously ill two years ago when he suffered a stroke but since that time was able to get up and sit in his chair. He had been blind since his stroke.

Mr. Repking was born December 20, 1867 at Bishop, the son of Anton and Elizabeth Sandschafer Repking. He lived his entire life on the farm where he died. He is the last surviving member of the family.

He was married to Rose Schleper on May 12, 1896, in St Francis Catholic Church, Teutopolis. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last year.

Surviving, besides his wife, Rose, are eight children, Frank Repking of Gary, Mrs Phil (Marie) Niemerg and Clarence Repking of Chicago, Mrs Robert (Elsie) Osthoff and Mrs Herman (Clara) Habing of Effingham, Ralph of Dieterich, and Bill and Albert at Home. One son, Tony, died when he was eighteen months old. Twenty-eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren also survive.

The rosary was recited at the Habing Funeral Home in Teutopolis Monday and Tuesday evening. The funeral was at 9:30 at St Aloysius, Bishop. Rev Anthony Wagner OFM officiated at the Requiem Mass. Pallbearers were neighbors Leonard Bierman, Tony Probst, Sylvester Beckman, Lawrence Goeckner, Andrew Hartke and Sylvester Westendorf.
