Clara Engle, 90 passed away Dec. 4 2003 at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility after a short illness.

She was born May 7 1913 in Freeport, Ill the daughter of Sidney John and Anna Johnanna (Hillebrecht)Engle. She was a graduate of the Class of 1934 of Imlay City Mi.; received her Nursing Education Degree at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids in 1937. Her Masters at Wayne State University between 1953 and 1958. Was a missionary to Turkey 1946-1956. Served in WWII. serving in England and France and on the Blanch F Sigman Hospital Ship.

Employed by the State of Michigan at Oakdale in Lapeer and Caro State hospitals.

Member of the United Methodist Church in Imlay City. Worked with area Hospice for many years after retirement.


Surviving are her sisters Ruth Stamman of Capac and Doris(Henry)Ettema of Imlay City,a brother Harry in Inverness, Fla. three god children, Nadine Birney of Texas, Karen Becknell of Maryland, Jon Powell of Calif. Several Nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; sister Ethel Fardin and brothers Paul and Earl Engle.
