ESSINGTON-STENDER: - William Essington, a successful farmer of near Brayton, Iowa, and Miss Anna Stender, a fascinating young lady of 2 1/2 miles northeast of Keytesville, were married at the residence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Stender, Wednesday, February 1, 1905, Rev. Alpha Ingle of Keytesville making the twain one. Only a few special friends and near relatives were in attendance. A par excellence dinner was served in honor of the occasion, and several beautiful wedding presents were received. The Courier joins the bridal couple's numerous friends in extending congratulations and best wishes.

Annie Essington, Former Brayton Woman, Dies
Mrs. Annie M. Essington, 81, of Des Moines, formerly of Brayton, died at 10:45 last night at Des Moines Methodist hospital, to which she was admitted yesterday morning. Mrs. Essington had lived in Des Moines with a daughter since the death of her husband, William Essington, June 1, 1956.
The daughter of John and Mary Stender, she was born January 24, 1881 and was married to Mr. Essington February 22, 1905.
Surviving are a son, Frank Essington of Exira; four daughters, mrs. Henry Beck of Exira, Mrs. Ed Chesterman and Lorena Essington of Des Moines and Mrs. Earl Whalen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sisters, Mrs. Joe Robertson and Mrs. Elsie Franklin of Greeley, Colorado and mrs. John R. Thompson of Eaton, Colorado; two brothers, Frank Stender of Gerber, California and Harry Stender of Hollywood, California; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The Cori funeral home of Exira is in charge of funeral arrangements which are pending.

William Essington and Annie Stender married February 22, 1905. Five children were born to this union: Frank, Evelyn (Mrs. Henry Beck), Lorena, Mary (Mrs. Earl Whalen), and Carolyn (Chesterman).
William Essington acquired this (family) farm at the time of his father's (T.J. Essington) death in 1871, and farmed it continuously until retiring in 1942, at which time Frank Essington, the present owner and operator (in 1978) acquired the farm."
