Amelia Amen, 100, of Cheyenne died Dec. 15.
She was born Aug. 13, 1905, in Lincoln, Neb.
She resided at Life Care Center since Nov. 4 but had lived in Sierra Hills in Cheyenne from Nov. 1, 1998, to Nov. 1, with prior residence in Cheyenne, since June 12, 1927, the day of her marriage to Adolph Amen. On June 12, 2003, they celebrated 76 years together. She was the third of six children of John and Marie Sitzman, immigrants of Frank, Russia, who came to America in 1898.
She taught herself to play the piano and used her talent at the Union Pacific Railroad Oldtimers Club, the Golden Age Club, Zion Congregational and Evangelical United Brethren churches.
Until she was 99 years old and experienced diminished eyesight, Mrs. Amen daily read her Bible and devotional. Her favorite scripture verse was "This is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it," from Psalms 118:24. That verse was her daily motto and life's guidance.
She is survived by two sons Ralph Amen of Winston-Salem, N.C., and James Amen of Cheyenne; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph in 2003; her daughter JoAnn in 2002; her parents, John and Marie Sitzman; three brothers, John, Ray, and Bob Sitzman; and two sisters, Marie Achziger and Molly Gettman.
A celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bob Garrard officiating.
