She was born October 3, 1902 in New Holstein to George L. and Eliese (Timm) Leverenz. Sylvia was a 1920 graduate of New Holstein High School and an alumnae of U.W. Milwaukee. She lived in Greenbush from 1931 until moving to Green Bay in 1978. In 1926 she married Floyd F. Hartig in Edgar.
Sylvia had been a kindergarten teacher, a housewife, and a company partner in Hartig Texaco Service, Greenbush. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Kohler and Plymouth Women's Clubs, the Alumni Association of U.W. Milwaukee, and a knitting volunteer for Bellin Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty 'Mildred' E. Behnke and Ervin F. Behnke; Jane Linsky Anderson and Jim W. Anderson; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by .her husband, Floyd; her parents; one brother and sister.
The family will greet friends after 12:30 pm Friday at First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe St. Memorial Service 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Keith Schoerlucke officiating.
