Old Resident Remsen Dies
Mrs. Agnes Rolfes Passes Wednesday
Death yesterday afternoon claimed another excellent resi-dent of this community when Mrs. Agnes Rolfes, a resident here for 34 years, passed away in her home at the age of 75 years, says the Remsen Bell-Enterprise. Her death was due to comp-lications which had afflicted her during the past year. Surviving Mrs. Rolfes are seven children, two sisters and twenty-three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in St. Mary's Catholic church Saturday morning.

Mrs. Rolfes suffered a severe sickness a year ago but ralli-ed and was apparently fully recovered. About six weeks ago she again began to fail but was up and about her home until a week ago when she was obiged to yield, and the end was foreseen several days ago. She passed away at 1:10 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.

Born January 26, 1869, in Damme, Oldenburg, Germany, she was the daughter of Elizabeth and Bernard Muhring. She lived with her parents until the time of her marriage November 8, 1893, in her native village, and four years later Mr. and Mrs. Rolfes came to this country and directly to Le Mars, to which place relatives had preceded them. After living In Le Mars a few months they settled on a farm one mile west of Merrill. Subsequently they farmed near O'Leary and LeMars and in 1910 moved to a farm seven miles south-east of Remsen. Mr. Rolfes passed away there in 1914 and for four years Mrs. Rolfes and her children carried on at farm work, later occupying a place southwest of town, then north, and in 1918 they moved to Remsen.

Agnes Rolfes was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith when with a devout family background and Christian upbring-ing she clung steadfastly to her faith throughout life. She was a devoted wife and mother, rearing an excellent family, and among her many friends she was ever and considerate to all which in charitable and faithful, generous turn endear-ed her to her every acquaintance. Her sudden passing is a source of keenest regret among those who knew her while it is a severe blow to the devoted children. Mrs. Rolfes was for many years a member of the Christian Mothers society, affiliating with this organization while residing on the farm near Oyens, and later in St. Mary's congregation. Members will attend the funeral in a body.

The deceased woman was the mother of twelve children. Five of them preceded their mother to the grave. The seven surviving children are: Henry, who shared the home with his mother until the time of her death; Bernard and Frank, Le Mars; Herman, Leeds; Ven. Sister Mary Anicita, Larchwood; Mrs. Herman (Bernadine) Schroeder, Kingsley, and Mrs, B. N. (Agnes) Ruba, Remsen. There are two sisters living in Germany, where two sisters and a brother have passed away.

The body is at the Rolfes home pending the hour of burial. Funeral services will take place Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock in St. Mary's church, and burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
