Funeral services for 49 year old Carl Hewitt of Stuarts Draft, who was killed yesterday(April 17, 1962) when the truck he was driving was demolished by a Norfolk and Western freight train will be held Thursday at 2p.m.
Services will be conducted at Stuarts Draft Mennonite Church by Rev. Silas Brydge, assisted by the Rev.Paul Barnhart. Burial will be in the church cemetary.
Mr Hewitt was Killed instantly shortly before noon yesterday when his truck was rammed by a local freight at the Dooms crossing on state route 611 about four miles north of Waynesboro.
Trainmen were unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the truck as it pulled onto the tracks directly in front of the locomotive.
Mr. Hewitt's death was the forth in Augusta County highways this year. Mr Hewitt was born May 1st. 1911, in Lyndhurst a son of the late Mack Morris and Mary Hattie Coffey Hewitt. He was a member of the Stuarts Draft Mennonite Church. He is Survied by his wife, Virginia Arnold Hewitt, six sons, Marvin E. Hewitt, and Carl Hewitt Jr. both of Waynesboro, David E. Hewitt of Stuarts Draft, Wilber P. Hewitt, Harold W. Hewitt and Ervin J. Hewitt, all at home, one daughter , Miss Mary Evelyn Hewitt at home.
Also two brothers, Guy Hewitt, Lyndhurst and Manuel Hewitt, Stuarts Draft, two half brothers, Ralph Hewitt, Lyndhurst and Mack Hewitt Jr. Route 2 Waynesboro, six half sisters, Mrs George Trustlow, Stuarts Draft, Mrs Boyd Quick, Mrs.Sherman Quick both of Lyndhurst, Mrs Hunter Falls of Waynesboro, Mrs. Harry Hufford, Crimora, and Mrs. Betty Hewitt, Route 1 Stuarts Draft, stepmother Mrs. Allie Martin, Stuarts Draft, two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Sidney Shirley, Paul Brydge,Vance Brydge, Oscar Brydge, John Haden and J.H. Weaver Jr.
Honorary pallbears are Ray Kiser, Donald Mc.Clure, B.B. Hanger, Gorden Short, Frank Marshall, Dr. Harvey B. Ryder,Carroll Pool, Claude Coiner, and Merle Desper.
