"Carlyle J. Lerch Sr., 76, of Columbia, Ill., born Aug. 15, 1925, in Valmeyer, Ill., died April 7, 2002, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.

"Mr. Lerch was retired from Cerro Copper Products, Sauget, Ill. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ-Columbia. American Legion Post 581 Columbia, Metzger Crook VFW Post 6504-Waterloo, Morris Lodge AF & AM 787-Waterloo, Scottish Rite-Belleville; and Ainad Shrine Temple - East St. Louis, Ill., and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

"Mr. Lerch was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore W. Sr. and Anna K. Lerch, nee Hess and brothers, Arlyn "Stumpy" Lerch and Robert Lerch.

"Surviving are his former wife, Billie Jean Lerch, nee Iglehart of Columbia; children: Carla (Jeff) Lewis of Peoria, Ill., Carlyle J. (Sylvia) Lerch Jr. of Columbia; Cathy (Jerry) Helms of Waterloo, Ill., and Cynthia (John) Kistler of Columbia. grandchildren, Kristen and Brent Lewis, Matthew and Jennifer Lerch, J.D. and Laura Helms, Erica and Ryan Schlemmer and Stephanie Fischer, sister Ethel Rohlfing of Red Bud, Ill.; brothers, Harold H. (Margie) Lerch of Ashley, Ill., and Theodore W. (Betty) Lerch of Red Bud; sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

"Memorial may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, St. Louis.

"Friends called Wednesday, April 10, at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo, and Thursday, April 11, at St. Paul United Church of Christ-Columbia.

"The funeral was Thursday, April 11, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, with Paster Robert Page officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Evangelical Cemetery, Columbia."
