Grace Elizabeth Stier, age 93 , of New Holstein and formerly of Kiel died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, September 23, 2012 at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. She was the daughter of the late Peter & Rose (Schnell) Menne, born April 17, 1919 in Kiel. Grace attended SS Peter & Paul Grade School and graduated with honors from Kiel High School in 1937. She was employed at the former Kiel Telephone Exchange as a telephone operator until her marriage. On January 4, 1941 she married Leslie Stier in the rectory of SS Peter & Paul Parish. After the couples marriage they farmed in Charlestown and later in the town of Schleswig. Her husband Leslie preceded her in death on June 10, 1994. Grace was a devout christian, and was active with both Holy Rosary & SS Peter & Paul Catholic Churches. She enjoyed making quilts for her children & grandchildren. She also worked word search puzzles and did embroidery work. Grace was an avid reader, usually reading a book a week and enjoyed baking for her family. She is survived by seven children: Kathleen (Wayne) Casper, Kiel, Carol (Dick) Jens, Kiel, Dr. Jeffrey Stier, Madison, Paul (Marilyn) Stier, West Bend, Dr. Kenneth (Julie) Stier, Normal, IL Dale (Carol) Stier, Kiel and Donald (Andrea) Stier, New Holstein. She is further survived by 25 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren,one great great grandchild, two step grandchildren, one brother, Gerald (Mary Ann) Menne, Green Bay, one sister-in-law, Audrey Menne, Kiel, nieces, nephews, one special niece and Godchild, Kathy Heise, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, mother & father-in-law, two brothers, Ralph & Mark Menne, one sister, Carol Menne and one daughter-in-law, Sandra Stier. The funeral Mass for Grace will be celebrated at 11:30 am, Saturday, September 29, 2012 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 413 Fremont St., Kiel with Rev. Loren Nys S.D.S. officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name. Family and friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St. Kiel on Saturday from 9:00 am until 11:00 am when brief family rites will be held.
