Kautzer, Thomas (June 24, 1838-Nov. 21, 1886 –husband of Josephine Gentha [married in Prussia –Josephine is also shown as Botha and Botta] –son of Ignatz Kautzer and Katharine Schaffer –born Prussia –was in the Prussian Army and served on the front in a war between Prussia and Austria –it was then that he “lost the little finger of his left hand by a gunshot” –from the book History of Reno County, Kansas [1917] by Sheridan Ploughe –once receiving his discharge, left with his wife and baby son Frank for the US –immigrated with wife and eldest son to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1866 –filed for naturalization on Oct. 28, 1868 –after working for two years as a blacksmith in Milwaukee, moved to the Town of Eaton in 1868 and went into farming –was also a blacksmith –is the brother of Mathias Kautzer, who died the same day –“One of the brothers died in the morning and the other in the afternoon, but they were buried together.” –from Der Nord-Western, Nov. 25, 1886) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 1, Row 8, Lot 27 –broken stone –in 2019 the St. Nazianz Area Historical Society placed a marker on this grave] [death record Manitowoc 4-6]
