Kautzer, Frank Xavier (July 28, 1866-June 3, 1932 –husband of Magdeline Stahl [married Oct. 4, 1898 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton –Magdeline was born June 23, 1878 in the Town of Eaton of Cyriak Stahl and Sophia Lenhard –after the death of Frank in 1932, Magdeline re-married to Richard Biddle on Feb. 6, 1937 in the City of Sheboygan –Richard was born Aug. 22, 1893 and died March 14, 1962 –both are buried at Calvary Cemetery, City of Sheboygan] –son of Thomas Kautzer and Josephine Gentha –born in Breslau, Prussia, which today is Wroclaw, Poland –entered the US with his parents the same year as his birth –laborer on re-saw at Dillingham Manufacturing in Sheboygan County –in the 1890’s managed a local paper in St. Nazianz for 1 1/2 years –soon after his marriage in 1898, managed a boarding house and saloon at 4624 County Road A in Section 12, Town of Eaton, which he ran until April 1, 1912 –this boarding house and saloon were located at the junction of County A and Highway 151 –in the 1900 census for the Town of Eaton, Frank and Magdelina are shown living at this tavern with their son Arthur [born in Aug. of 1899] –Frank is shown as a “bartender” –“For nine years he resided in Manitowoc, and as he was the eldest son and his parents were in straitened circumstances, he was early compelled to contribute toward the maintenance of the family. He was employed on the lakes for a year and then engaged in railroading being employed on the Wisconsin Central for six years. Later he was stationed at Milwaukee, and was a resident of that city when the first electric cars were installed. He then left the service of the railroad and engaged in work for the City Railway Company, remaining in their employ for four years. At the end of that time he came to St. Nazianz and took over the management of the local paper, which he retained for eighteen months. He next engaged in the machine business in the capacity of salesman, but he withdrew from this vocation after his marriage and bought his present place of business [which was the saloon and boarding house at junction of 151 and County A]. Mr. Kautzer conducted his establishment in such a manner that it became very popular and as he is a genial man and well liked in the community he met with deserved success. FRANK F. KAUTZER IS CALLED TO REST AT HOME IN VALDERS
Frank F. Kautzer, 1227 Geele Avenue, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the home of a brother, Joseph Kautzer at Valders, with whom he had been visiting. Mr. Kautzer had been ill for some time. He was well known in Sheboygan and Manitowoc counties, as he had formerly resided at Manitowoc and St. Nazianz.

He was born in Germany on July 28, 1866 and came to America with his parents when he was three years old, locating in Milwaukee for a time, after which the family moved to Sheboygan. Mr. Kautzer attended the Catholic parochial school here. Later he moved to Manitowoc and then to Town Eaton where he was engaged in farm work. In 1897 he was married to Magdalene Stahl at St. Nazianz, and later the couple moved to Niles, Wis., where they lived three years.

After that they located at Hewitt, where they lived three and one-half years, after which they moved to St. Nazianz, residing there twelve years.

After this, the family moved to Sheboygan, their present home. Mr. Kautzer as employed at the Dillingham company for eleven years.

He is survived by his wife; five sons, Arthur and Alfred of Sheboygan route 2; Harold and Frank, this city and Edwin at home and one daughter, Ermalinde at home; ten grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. George Barnard, Reedsville; Mrs. Oscar Freund, Manitowoc; Mrs. John Klabechek, this city and Mrs. A.J. Schwalbe of Manitowoc and by three brothers, Edwin of Los Angeles, California; John of Pretty Prairie, Kansas and Joseph Kautzer of Valders. Mr. Kautzer was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin.

The body was removed to the Robert H. Kroos Funeral Home. Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at 9 o'clock at Holy Name church. The Rev. Philipp Dreis will officiate and interment will be in the St. Nazianz Catholic cemetery.
