Matilda was born to John and Agnes Geaskamier in Pine Grove Furnace, Ohio on April 1, 1883. After her father died, she moved to Detroit with her mother and sister, Anna.
Matilda was living with her older sister, Julia, from 1902-1904 where she met her brother-in-law's brother, John Knuth, whom she later married in September 1912.
Matilda and John raised one daughter, Marcella, at their house on Bessemore Avenue in Detroit.
Matilda is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery next to her husband, John.
