He married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Berling on May 21, 1912 (Stearns Marr Lic: 29937623). The couple farmed in Section 22 of Grove Township - 1 mile east of the village of Meire Grove, Minn.

- Albert Leukam
- Odillo Leukam
- Verena Uphus
- Aloys Leukam
The family farm was taken over by Joe and Lizzie Leukam's son, Aloyis and his wife, Viola, Leukam.
Joe Leukam died in Jan 12, 1974 and is buried in St. Andrew's Cemetery in Greenwald, Minn.
