Leroy Daniel Kahler was born into a large German family on October 2, 1934 to Henry J. and Molly (Green) Kahler. He passed away Wednesday, October 2 at the age of 79. Leroy grew up in Globeville, Colorado. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1957-1959 with an honorable discharge in February of 1959 as a Private 1st Class.
He met and married Ronda Ruberg in Denver and worked at the Denver Stockyards until its closing. Two daughters were born to this union, both in the month of May two years apart: Kelly Jo and Shelly Lee. They moved to Ronda's hometown of Yuma, Colorado when the girls were small. Leroy worked as a farm/ranch hand for Bill Hanson and Tom Holtorf and also for a well drilling company. Leroy and Ronda divorced and he moved back to the Denver area. He worked many years for Engbar Pipe and Steel, he had many friends and coworkers there that remember him fondly.
Leroy had a good sense of humor, enjoyed a good water fight, and amazed his girls with tricks he could do on the trampoline and diving board. He was a favorite dance partner at German weddings because he could dance the polka with a unique flair and seemed to love flying around the dance floor. He was a quiet man, and later in life he enjoyed many hours fishing on the lake in a boat that he and his brother Harvey shared. His best buddy was his brother Harvey.
Leroy is survived by his two daughters: Kelly Jo Rayl (Tony) and Shelly Lee Pappenheim (Alan), 8 grandchildren: Chad, Jake, Kyle, Kadi, Kobe, Emma Rayl, Trey and Tori Pappenheim, and one Great grandchild: Camden Rayl, brothers: Walter (Delores), Kenny (Iona), Harvey, Rich, and sister Phyllis Fisher, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation and service was arranged by All Veterans Funeral & Cremation. The service will be Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Ft. Logan National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m
