Mrs. Lavell Smith, a sister of Elvis Presley's mother, the late Mrs. Gladys Smith Presley, died Monday at Methodist Hospital South. Mrs. Smith, 71, of 1621 Winfield, was born in Tupelo, Miss., also Elvis' hometown. She moved to Memphis about 1950. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Laverne Pate of Memphis; a son, Gene Smith of Southaven; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Fortenberry and Mrs. Clettes Presley, both of Memphis, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
