Emma B. Kindsfater was born May 20, 1909, in Windsor to Jacob and Katherine Elizabeth (Fritzler) Brunner, who were German immigrants who came to the United States from Russia in the early 1900s. She was baptized as an infant at St. John's Lutheran Church in Windsor; her baptism was affirmed through the Rite of Confirmation at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Windsor. Mrs. Kindsfater attended school in Severance through the eighth grade. On Aug. 20, 1929, she married Manuel Kindsfater in Fort Collins. They farmed for the Farr family for many years before moving to the William R. Kelly farm north of Greeley in 1941, where they farmed for 20 years. They retired from farming in 1962 and moved into Greeley. Mrs. Kindsfater volunteered as a Grey Lady at Weld County General Hospital, now called North Colorado Medical Center. She was a perfectionist in everything she did and loved being a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and canning and was famous for her dill pickles, canned peaches and German rye bread, which she shared with family, neighbors and friends. Mrs. Kindsfater contributed to and helped assemble the original and still popular AHSGR, American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, cookbook. Her favorite hobby was sewing and needlework, having won blue ribbons at the Weld County Fair for her afghans. For years, she created and sewed beautiful christening dresses for porcelain dolls, many of which were given as gifts. She also enjoyed playing the old familiar hymns on her organ and, with a little coaxing, would play for visitors. Mrs. Kindsfater was a generous, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother -- one never left her home empty-handed. Her five grandchildren were the pride of her life.

Survived by a son Lloyd Kindsfater; five grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Freida and Lew Tanner of Eugene, Ore.; a brother, Ben Brunner of Payson, Ariz.; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joanna and Julianne Kindsfater of Fort Collins.

Preceded in death by her husband, Manuel in 1963; parents, Jacob and Betty Brunner; three brothers, Jake, Henry and Gus Brunner, formerly of Windsor; two sisters, Mollie Reifschneider, formerly of Rancho Mirage, Calif., and Ellen Reifschneider, formerly of Boise, Idaho.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1800 21st Ave., Greeley.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
