Francis Lechman, 87, Topeka, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at a Topeka hospice house. He was born March 12, 1915, in Topeka, the son of Albert and Constance Lechman.

Mr. Lechman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Lechman worked for the Santa Fe shops and for Schendel Pest Control, from which he retired. He had served in the U.S. Army.

He married Laura Streeter on June 7, 1933, in Holton. She died Jan. 23, 1988. He also was preceded in death by two infant sons and a granddaughter.

Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Mauer, Paxico, Rosalia Moseley, Denison, Mary Groves, Topeka, and Victoria Ingersoll, Broomfield, Colo.; a brother; three sisters; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Assumption Catholic Church. Graveside inurnment services will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm.
