Mr. Maass died Aug. 31 at his home. The sheriff's department said Mr. Maass took his own life.
Born at LeMars on April 22, 1938, he was the son of Frank and Marie Erickson Maass. He had lived in this area for 16 years and was a farmer. He was married to the former Judith Lynne Hultgen on May 23, 1965 at Oak Lawn, Ill. Mr. Maass was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Scott and Lance; a daughter, Alissa; brothers, Elmer of Remsen, Iowa and Wayne of Paullina; sisters, Ruth Anderson of LeMars, Dorothy Robinson of Kingsley and Helen Bottjen of Remsen; and his mother, Marie of Remsen.
