Frank A. Maass. Frank A. Maass, 79, Remsen, died Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 11, 1977) following a heart attack at his farm southeast of town.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Christ Lutheran church, Rev. Leroy Riemer of Sutherland will officiate. Burial will be in Remsen city cemetery. A prayer service will be at 9 p.m. Thursday in the Moeller funeral home.
Rev. Alan Brutlag will officiate at the prayer service.
Grandsons will be active and honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Maass, a prominent Remsen area farmer and lifetime resident, was born Feb. 5, 1898 at Remsen to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maass.
Her married Marie Erichsen Dec. 8, 1920 at Remsen and the couple farmed southeast of Remsen, where he died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon.
The couple retired in 1959 and lived in Remsen.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Christ Lutheran church in Remsen and attended country schools in Remsen [Henry] township.
In addition to being president several times at Christ Lutheran church, he was director of the country school in his area for 35 years.
He served as elder and trustee at Christ Lutheran.
Mr. Maass was active in 4-H work and served the Remsen Ramblers for 25 years. He earned all the 4-H awards and the alumni award.
Surviving are his widow, Marie; three daughters, Mrs. Glen (Dorothy) Robinson and Mrs. George (Helen) Bottjen of Remsen and Mrs. Burton (Ruth) Anderson of Le Mars; three sons, Elmer of Remsen, Wayne of Paullina and Roy of Lorimor; 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Fred (Clara) Seel of Remsen.

Pallbearers were all grandsons, Kevin Maass, Jerry Maass, Dan Bottjen, Dean Mohning, Larry Anderson and Raymond Robinson.

The congregation participated by singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and response of the 23rd Psalm.
Pastor Riemer gave the sermon and also graveside services in the Remsen City cemetery.
Friends and relatives gathered at Christ Lutheran church after the services for a fellowship hour. Ladies of the church served.

Mr. Maass will long be remembered for his contribution of 25 years of 4-H leadership in the Remsen community and working with young people, as well as his services as an officer in his church, serving the school as director for many years and his interest in school activities, but most of all, he will be remembered as a man devoted to agriculture and Iowa farm life. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, October 18, 1977, page 1
