Banns were always read in the Church for three Sundays preceding a marriage.) - Nro 2 Copulirt. Maria Anna Kuhlmann Toshann Kom Harr; Porbann Zimmanmism Johan Dirk Kuhlmann in Oythe und Maria Elizabeth Hencke. Zanigan: Johan Bernad Kuhlman Johan Repking

His Mother died when he was 4 and his Father remarried one month later. Even though he was the oldest son, apparently he did not inherit the Family farm. It was passed to another brother. Franz Anton Repking and his wife, Anna Marie Kuhlman, became heuer leute ("hired people" or Tenant Farmers) in Holzhausen near Oythe, Oldenburg.

He migrated to the USA in 1849. A review of the microfilm of ship landings in New Orleans for the year 1849 lists him, his wife and his family. Their ship landed in New Orleans on November 5. The ship was the Rob Roy which sailed from Bremen. He arrived with his wife Maria, 53; their son Johan Heinrick, 20; daughters: Maria Gertrude, 26; and Margaretha Repking, 24.

Confusion exists over the presence of Margaretha in the ship landing log. There is no Margaretha Repking listed among the baptisms of the Church of The Blessed Virgin Mary in Oythe.. In addition, Maria Gertrude died in Oythe in 1824. So the two daughters could be anyone.

He and his wife settled in Effingham County Ill on the farm of their son, Anton, who had migrated in 1846. Their names appear in the census of 1850 with their son Anton. The names of the other members of the family did not appear in the census, it is assumed they were in Cincinnati.

He is buried in the old section of the St Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis. His name appears in the death records at the Church on page 60. His wife's name, Kuhlman, is listed in the record. His name is recorded as Franciscus Antonious Repking in the register. I could not find his marker in the old Cemetery.
