Marie Wobken was born March 31, 1907, on the family farm five miles west of Uehling to Frederick and Helene (Oldigs) Wobken. She attended grade school at Shady Dell School, District 83. She taught Sunday school and played the organ at the church. She married Gilbert Henry Weitzenkamp on April 15, 1936, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Scribner. They made their home west of Uehling until 1940, when they moved southwest of Tekamah for two years. They then returned to rural Uehling to the Adolph Witter farm for two years. In 1944, they moved to Lyons.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Oakland until 1956, when she and her husband became charter members of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons. She was active in her church and served as Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America president, sang in the choir, was the church organist, taught Sunday school and made many quilts for the World Wide Relief project. She also was a member of the Better Homes Extension Club for more than 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert on Oct. 9, 2002; her son, six brothers and a sister.
Survivors include: her daughter-in-law; a sister; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons with the Rev. Norma J. Vander Meer officiating.
VISITATION: 1-8 p.m. Monday at Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. B
BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery in Lyons.
