MONTICELLO — Funeral services for Gerd Henry Ortgies, 91,were held Saturday afternoon at SS Peter and Paul Lutheran church. Interment was in Prairie Hill cemetery. Mr. Ortgies died at John McDonald hospital Wednesday, Feb. 26, after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 24, 1877, at Neunde, Germany, the son of Lubbe and Meta Eilers Ortgies. He received his early education in Germany. The Ortgies family moved to Davenport in 1892 and two years later moved to the Monticello area.
He married Freda Kray Jan. 23 1913, at the Castle Grove Lutheran church. She preceded him in death Dec. 4, 1948.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Survivors include two sons, William
of Monticello and Alvin of Anamosa; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Meta K. Ulferts and Mrs. Herman (Augusta) Schafer, both of Anamosa.
Casketbearers were Emil Ulferts,Louis Ulferts, Ernest Schafer, Elmer Hanken, Alfred Conmen and Herman Ortgies.
