Dennis Raymond Dehler was born to Raymond and Helen (Hartman) Dehler on January 5, 1950, in Slayton, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm near Lake Wilson, MN. In 1961, he began special education classes in Slayton. He continued attending these classes until he was 21 years old. In 1973, he began participating in the Murray County Developmental Achievement Center. He continued to live with his mother until July 20, 1986, when his mother entered a nursing home and Dennis was placed in foster care. On July 25, 1989, he became a resident of New Dawn, Inc. in Fulda, MN. Dennis enjoyed many activities, especially bowling, swimming, bike riding, going to the library and attending concerts. He loved animals, especially dogs. He had also been involved in the Special Olympics program.
Dennis died at the home of his sister, Marilyn, in rural Pipestone, October 7, 1990, at the age of 40 years, 9 months and 2 days.
