Born June 17, 1880, in Rhinewald, Russia, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Gorte, he came to the United States in 1909 and became a citizen in 1919. On Feb. 17, 1912, he was married to Christine Wilde in Milwaukee.
The couple located in Sheboygan where he was employed by the Vollrath Co. until 1931, then moved near English Lake, Manitowoc County, where they farmed. She died on Nov. 5, 1965.
Mr. Gorte was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Newtonburg.
Surviving are one son, Henry, on the homestead farm, and four grandchildren. One daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Newtonburg, with Rev. A.T. Degner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Sheboygan.
Friends may call at Christianson Funeral Home, Valders, until 11 a.m. Tuesday and then after noon at the church.
