Marie M. Graveen, a devoted wife and loving mother, age 91, Wausau, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Hospice House, Wausau.

She was born September 5, 1921 in Wood County, daughter of the late Nicholas Joseph and Rose (Kundert) Wirtz. On December 16, 1943 she married Ralph Graveen at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1996.

Marie worked as a beautician at the former Powder Puff Beauty Salon in Schofield. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing, league bowling and gardening, especially flowers. She was an extraordinary baker who was known for her homemade bread, fudge and cinnamon rolls. Marie had a great love for children and usually a house full of them, after raising her own eight kids, she also helped take care of her grandchildren and friends children.

Survivors include her seven children: Ralph Jr. "Butch" (Colleen) Graveen, Hazelhurst, Gerald (Shirley) Graveen, Mosinee, Judith Waraksa, Kronenwetter, Patricia (Thomas) Angerer, Greenfield, Lynne (Stephen) Krueger, Kaukauna, Karen (Terry) Schreiber, Rhinelander and Janet Eades, Wausau; 11 grandchildren, Michelle, Bernard "Bud" (Nicki), Daniel (Shannon), Becky (Brad) Amy (Jay), Jenny, Nikki, Rebecca, Alexandra, Zachary and Patrick; six great-grandchildren, Emma, Joseph, Kennedy, Abigail, Morgan and Jack; nine siblings, Genevieve (Roy) Wenzel, Theresa Arnold, George Wirtz, Isabella Acott, Clarence Wirtz, Richard (Barbara) Wirtz, Jerome(Sue) Wirtz, Frances Albrecht, and Joanne (John) Hackman; three sisters-in-law, Helen Graveen, Ann Graveen, and Genevieve "Dolly" Graveen; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Nancy Graveen, a brother, Bernard Wirtz and a sister, Ann DeFillips.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a 7:00 p.m. parish rosary service Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
