Sister Ann Bernadette Laubert, CDP, entered eternal life on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the age of 93. She was one of ten children born to Peter and Josephine (Niekamp) Laubert. Sister Ann Bernadette was born Louise Laubert on October 25, 1921 in Lott, Texas. She answered God’s call to become a Sister of Divine Providence on December 30, 1940 and professed first vows on June 22, 1943. Sister Ann Bernadette began her ministerial life in 1943 at St. Martin Hall.

As the second oldest of ten children, she helped her mother with the household chores, learning skills which she was able to use after entering the convent. Her first assignment as a Sister lasted seven years; she worked with the boarders at St. Martin Hall and Our Lady of the Lake High School. Subsequently, she began her 50 years working in food service at Our Lady of the Lake College/University, first with Sisters’ dining room and then with the general dining service.

In 1959 the College began employing outside contractors for the food services. As various providers came and went, Sister Annie B, as she was fondly known, was hired by each to be a friendly, welcoming presence as the Line and Service Supervisor. She also helped with baking. Her sweet demeanor and delicious baked goods were staples throughout her decades of service. She had a wonderful relationship with the students. She said, “When the students are happy, I am happy, and I love to do little things for them.” The caring was mutual; in the words of a student, she “reminds me of the perfect grandmother. I am always reminded of home when I speak to her and hear her sweet voice.”

The campus-wide regard and appreciation for this beloved woman was shown when on April 8, 1994, the cafeteria was dedicated in Sister’s honor in recognition of her many years of service. It was named the "Sister Annie B Cafeteria.” Sister continued to work at the University until her retirement in 2000 at age 79. In September 2008, she was invited to the official ribbon cutting ceremony of the restored Sister Annie B Cafeteria following the May 6, 2008 fire at OLLU.

Sister Ann Bernadette is survived by her six siblings and their spouses and all her other Sisters of Divine Providence. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Josephine (Niekamp) Laubert, brothers: Edmund, Joseph, Herman and his wife Delores Poff Laubert and brothers-in-law, Reinardt Henkelman, Frances Brown, and sister-in-law Gail Lord Laubert.
