Eugene Orthmann was born January 22, 1870, in Benton County, near Keystone, Ia. He was the son of Mr. H. F. Orthmann and Mrs. Emma Dorothy Timmerman Orthmann. When he was a small boy about ten years of age Mr. Orthmann moved with his parents to Story County. There he remained until in 1881 he came to Paullina.

On February 18, 1908, Mr. Orthmann was married to Miss Louisa Muhs. They set up housekeeping on a farm south of Paullina where they made their home until in 1918 when they moved into Paullina and Mr. Orthmann entered the stock buying business. He was a member of the Paullina Presbyterian church.

The deceased lived in Paullina until the time of his death, in the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1936, as the result of heart falure induced by an attack of influenza. He was then sixty-six years and eight months of age.

To Mr. Orthmann's marriage union five children were born, three of these survive. There are surviving him his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Omer Tuttle, of Hartley, and Miss Idella, of Paullina, and a son, Eugenos, Jr. There also survive two brothers and three sisters: Will Orthmann, of Hartley, and Ed Orthmann, of Los Angeles; and Mrs. Zerbena Hlnkey and Mrs. John Claussen of Hartley, and Mrs. Matilda Schultz, of Sioux Falls.

The funeral of the late Mr. Eugenos Orthmann of Paullina, la., was held on Fritay afternoon, October 2. The services were held in the home and in the First Presbyterian church, of Paullina, with the minster, the Rev Walter R. Clyde, Jr., in charge. Interment was in Prairie View Cemetery, southwest of Paullina.
