Mrs. Otto Hinkey, or Mrs. Zerbena Hinkey, as she was affectionately known among her acquaintances and friends, was born July 20, 1876, to Mr. and Mrs. Fred H. Orthmann, in Story county, Iowa. At the age of 5 years, Zerbena, with his parents, 3 sisters and 5 brothers moved to a farm near Paullina, Iowa. Her youth was spent in this locality, and after her marriage to Otto Hinkey, she lived on a farm six miles south of Hartley. Since 1913, when this family moved to Hartley, this has been her home.

Her life's training began in Story county where she was baptized in the Christian faith. Since living in the Hartley community she attended Trinity Evangelical and Reformed church, of which she was a member at the time of her death. She joined the Dorcas Society of her church, and attended as long as her health permitted.

Her home had its moments of joy and sorrow. Four children, 3 daughters and 1 son, brought happiness to this home; she experienced heartaches in the death of her only son, Elmer, at the tender age of 2 1/2 years, and the passing of her husband in 1931.

Since the death of her husband she made her home with her sister, Mrs. Hanna Clausen, at Hartley, and since April of 1955 she has been cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Lousetta Stellish, of Aurelia, Iowa.

Mrs. Hinkey enjoyed good health most of her life time; she loved to visit with her friends and neighbors, but the infirmities of old age limited her late activities. She died on June 19, at the home of her daughter, having attained the age of 79 years and 11 months.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son, 5 brothers and 1 sister, and 2 granddaughters.

She leaves to mourn her passing three daughters: Mrs. Lousetta Stellish of Aurelia, Mrs. Amelia Tjossem of Primghar, and Mrs. Mae Klinker of Paullina; two sisters: Mrs. Hanna Clausen of Hartley and Mrs. Tillie Linstrom of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
