Erna D. Grundman, 101

A lifelong Glenn County resident Erna D. Grundman of Orland died on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015. She was born in Germantown, now known as Artois, on May 8, 1914, to Oscar and Anna Lovett.
She graduated from Willows High School in 1933, where she was the lead trumpeter, performed in plays and sang with the choral group. After graduation, she was hired as the administrative secretary for the Glenn County Welfare Director.
Later, she began selling Avon, and then became a cosmetician. She went to work at Harrington's Pharmacy in Orland in 1959, and later at Lee's Pharmacy in Chico for 30 years, retiring at the age of 71.
In 1935, she married Henry Grundman from Germany at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Reno, Nev. They were married 52 years at the time of his passing in 1987.
They owned a dairy in Artois for a number of years prior to selling and moving to Orland in 1955. They had one daughter, Joanne, who resides in Carson City, Nev.
She was also the organist for 40 years and later the secretary-treasurer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church [sic] in Artois. She belonged to a number of civic organizations, including the Orland Women's Improvement Club and Soroptomist Club.
She enjoyed playing bridge, baking, and gardening. After her husband died, she joined a travel group and was able to travel to Hawaii, Washington, D.C., New York and New England states.
She is survived by her daughter and several nieces and nephews. She had four siblings, all of whom have died.
A private graveside service is planned to be held at the Artois Cemetery, and later a memorial service and luncheon at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and hall in Artois is planned, time and date to be determined.
