When Jorgen Nikolai Shønning Hansen (George Finstead) was born on July 22, 1877, his father, Hans, was 43 and his mother, Jonetta, was 38. He emigrated to the United States in May 1904. Sometime after coming to the U.S. and before his subsequent marriage in 1906 he took the name George Finstad/Finstead...Finstad being the name of the farm in Norway on which he worked as a child. (It's unknown when/why Finstad ultimately became Finstead.) In 1906 he married Gurine Edland. They had five children together: Malmfreida(Molly), Howard, Audie, Theron, & Helwig(Ruby). In December 1923 he married Alina Mikalia Haggblom in Portland, Oregon. Shortly thereafter they moved to Alliance, Ohio where he died on February 16, 1941, at the age of 63. His link to Alliance and final resting place were only discovered by his grandson, Bruce "BA" Finstead, in early 2016. His other grandson, Bob Finstead, had a commemorative marker placed on his previously unmarked grave in July of 2016.
