Rosary for Edward Raymond Baier, 51, longtime area resident, was to be 7 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be 3 p.m. today at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Private family committal service will take place at a later date.

Mr. Baier died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, at his home at 1528 N. 12th.

Born April 20, 1945, at Garden City, he was the son of Philip and Mary Burgardt Baier.

A graduate of Holcomb High School, he served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967, serving most of his term in Germany. After the service, he returned to Garden City.

On June 13, 1970, he married Nancy Yardley at Garden City.

Mr. Baier worked at Schreiber Motor Co., and later for Burtis Motor Co., where he did body and fender work. He retired in 1995. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus #2795, and a member of Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo. He enjoyed gardening and driving around the countryside.

Survivors are a daughter, Sheila Baier, Lawrence; his mother, Garden City; four brothers, Johnny Baier and James Baier, both of Holcomb, Andrew Baier, Garden City, and David Baier, Deerfield; and three sisters, Helen Smith, Mary Jane Baier and Virginia Green, all of Garden City.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Catherine Joan Baier.

Memorials are to St. Mary School Endowment Fund or the American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral home.
