David Baier, 68, of Deerfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Dec. 21, 1942, in Garden City, to Phil and Mary Burgardt Baier, and attended school in Holcomb.
On Nov. 23, 1963, he married Marcella Heili in Garden City. She survives.
A Deerfield resident since 1978, Mr. Baier retired in 2003 after working as an elevator operator for Garden City Co-op since 1980.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Dave Baier of Holcomb, and Terry and Jeff Baier, both of Deerfield; three brothers, John and James Baier, both of Holcomb, and Andy Baier of Canon City, Colo.; three sisters, Mary Jane Baier, Virginia Green and Helen Smith, all of Garden City; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Baier; and a sister, Cathy Baier.
Funeral Mass was at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City.
